configuration of IPS on oracle solaris11

In this article i will illustrate how to configure Solaris 11 IPS (Image packaging system) repository.
IPS is a new feature introduced in Oracle Soalris 11 operating system. This option has almost same features as linux "yum"

In this demonstration i have used windows as my DNS server and oracle solaris 11 as a DNS client.

Steps:

1 - Verify oracle solaris 11, windows host and domainname are pinggable with each other
2 - concatenate 2 image files of package repository
3 - create directory for storing IPS repository & copy single Image file to IPS repository directory
4 - configure IPS on Oralce solaris 11
5 - Verify IPS is working on client

1 - Verify oracle solaris 11, windows host and domainname are ping-gable with each other

2 - concatenate 2 image files of package repository

3 - create directory for storing IPS repository & copy single Image file to IPS repository directory

4 - configure IPS on Oralce solaris 11

* check the status of IPS service

* configure default location of IPS server

* search package entire

Here default location is oracle website "http://pkg.orasol.com/solaris/release" if internet is configured  on this machine then all packages can be installed from this repository. As there is no internet connection it encountered error.

* set the directory location where all packages exists

* set read only properties for IPS

* Refresh and enable the IPS Service

* Refresh IPS repository

* Check the existing publisher

* Removes the current publisher and add a new URL

5 - Verify IPS is working on client

Search for any package

Now using this repository we can Install packages on the server and all other required client. I hope this post will be helpful for those who were looking for configuring IPS on Oracle Soalris 11 using windows as their DNS server.

Do we need to mount the full-repo iso before doing the "rsync -aP"?
